Ara for importers · Guide

Import goods to Tahiti.
Where to start?

To import goods to Tahiti, start with a freight forwarder before your supplier ships. Describe the goods, their value, weight and origin, ask for an itemised quote, then gather the commercial invoice, packing list and transport document. Ara, built by Devlab in Tahiti, lets you share these documents with your forwarder from a smartphone, by invitation.

1. Describe what you want to import

Prepare a precise description of the goods, their quantity, value and departure country. Add the weight, dimensions or estimated volume, and the final destination: Tahiti or another island of French Polynesia.

2. Ask a freight forwarder for a quote

The forwarder coordinates transport and the formalities included in their service. Ask for a breakdown of transport, fees, handling, any storage and delivery, with estimated duties and taxes and the costs not included. Public contact details for forwarders in French Polynesia are listed in Ara’s directory (in French).

3. Gather the documents with your forwarder

The documents depend on your goods and the transport. They usually include the commercial invoice, the packing list, the transport document (bill of lading or air waybill) and any permits specific to the goods, to confirm before shipping.

4. Follow your file with Ara

With Ara for importers, you scan or upload your documents, answer your forwarder’s questions in the right file and follow the steps they publish. Access is by invitation from your forwarder.
